For many LGBTQ+ Christians, reconciling faith and sexuality is a lonely and painful journey. This new documentary, Loves God, Likes Girls, tells the story of Sally Gary, growing up in Texas as "the good little Church of Christ girl." After coming out publicly as gay in Abilene, she went on to found CenterPeace, a nonprofit dedicated to making space for LGBTQ+ Christians. Sally's moving story of accepting herself while clinging to her faith and her family speaks to the need for LGBTQ+ youth and adults to have safe places to explore questions, to find community, and to grow deeper in relationship with God.
Sally Gary holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Arts from ACU. She taught in the communications department at ACU from 2001-2011. She has written a critically acclaimed memoir, also entitled Loves God, Likes Girls. Published in 2013, it explores faith and sexuality through the lens of Sally's personal journey without trying to give cookie-cutter answers.
